Wandile Duba nets sublime goal as Chiefs claim first win in 2024
Highly-rated attacker Wandile Duba netted a sublime goal as Kaizer Chiefs claimed their first win of 2024 in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday night.
The Soweto giants welcomed Arrows at FNB Stadium looking to collect their first maximum points in 2024. Chiefs had last tasted victory back in December 2023 against Richards Bay FC.
In the second round of the 2023/24 campaign, Chiefs played to goalless draws against Royal AM and Moroka Swallows. They also crashed out of the Nedbank Cup Last 32 following a 5-4 defeat on penalties against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Milford FC.
Interestingly, Abafana Bes’thende are winless in their last 11 games in all competitions and their last win was against Chiefs in October 2023.
The match began with a high intensity with both teams searching for an early goal to boost their confidence to walk away with three points

WANDILE DUBA OPENS HIS ACCOUNT FOR CHIEFS
Duba opened his account in the Chiefs’ first team since he was promoted from the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side last season.
Although Arrows fought for a goal to level matters, the Glamour Boys held on to go into the half-time break leading 1-0.
The KZN-based side started the second half of the match on the front foot and they found the back of the net through Knox Mutizwa but the Zimbabwean international was ruled off-side.
Mutizwa had another chance to equalise for Arrows in the 47th minute but he fired his shot way over the crossbar.
With the game reaching the closing stages, Arrows piled more pressure on Chiefs but they failed to convert their scoring chances.
The Cavin Johnson-coached team held on to secure three points against Arrows.
With the vital win Chiefs moved to 29 points, the same number of points as arch-rivals Orlando Pirates, who they will meet in the much-anticipated Soweto Derby on Saturday, 9 March 2024.
