Richards Bay FC release four players

FARPost has established that Richards Bay FC have cut ties with four players, including a former Mamelodi Sundowns man.

While they made more than ten signings at the start of the 2023/24 season, the Natal Rich Boyz had a handful of exits in the June/July transfer window.

Meanwhile, in January this year, Richards Bay promoted four players from their DStv Diski Challenge team. They also signed a Malawian striker, Khuda Muyaba, bolstering their forwards department.

The KZN side has been enduring a tough run this season under both Kaitano Tembo, who left in December, and Vusumuzi Vilakazi, who’s now in charge on an interim basis.

They currently occupy the playoff spot just above Cape Town Spurs, who are rooted to the foot of the table. Yesterday, they lost 3-0 to Chippa United and are now two points ahead of the Urban Warriors.

According to a source, the Jomo Biyela-owned side has parted ways with Lucky Mohomi, Mpho Mathebula, Sakhile Hlongwa and Sinethemba Mngomezulu.

The four players haven’t been training with the club and haven’t taken any part in all three games that Richards Bay have played this year.

Mohomi signed for the Zululand outfit at the beginning of the season following his departure from Marumo Gallants, who had suffered relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

He joined the club along with Letsie Koapeng, his teammate at Gallants, and is now on the books of Moroka Swallows.

Mohomi last featured for Richards Bay in December when they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.

Meanwhile, Mathebula has been with the club since 2021, when he signed from SuperSport United. The 23-year-old midfielder has been out with injury since August. He only played two matches this year against Golden Arrows and SuperSport United.

Mngomezulu signed for the Natal Rich Boyz in July last year from Stellenbosch FC. And just like Mohomi, he last donned a Richards Bay shirt in a match against Kaizer Chiefs in December.

Hlongwa has been with Richards Bay for four years having joined from Royal Eagles in 2020.
