AmaTuks stun Swallows in Nedbank Cup Last 16
Second-tier side AmaTuks stunned Moroka Swallows in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16, winning 2-1 on Wednesday night to book a quarter-final spot.
The showpiece took place at Tuks Stadium in Tshwane.
Below are some of the talking points from this Nedbank Cup Last 16 tie between Tuks and the Dube Birds.
TEBOGO MOHLAMONYANE BREAK THE DEADLOCK FOR TUKS
After a goalless first half, Tebogo Mohlamonyane broke the deadlock in the 57th minute to put the Motsepe Foundation Championship side in front.
Lwanda Mbanjwa scored an equaliser in the 88th minute for Swallows. However, Thabang Sibanyoni added to the scoreline.
Mohlamonyane and Sibanyoni’s goals were enough to earn Tuks a victory over the DStv Premiership outfit, Swallows.
MOROKA SWALLOWS, NOT CLINICAL
Maswaiswai couldn’t capitalise on their clear-cut chances, as the SA second-tier side put in a resilient defensive performance to deny the efforts of Musa Nyatama’s attackers.
As the game progressed, Swallows tried to shake things up and take command of the showpiece. Unfortunately, they couldn’t create much when they had a chance to do so.
CHANGES COULD NOT HELP MOROKA SWALLOWS
Gabadinho Mhango, Thakasani Mbanjwa, and Lindokuhle Mtshali were brought in to try to help the team.
Whereas Swallows’ technical team threw on all the trusted weapons they had on the bench as they desperately needed to win the game, but it was never meant to be.
AMATUKS BECAME THE FIRST TEAM TO QUALIFY FOR QUARTER-FINALS
The University of Pretoria have become the first team to qualify for the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals. This added more problems to the Soweto giants.
Tuks will wait for the draw to find out who they will meet next for the semifinal spot.
