Hunt discloses SuperSport’s target for remainder of the season
SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has disclosed his side’s target for the remainder of the season.
Two months are remaining before the PSL 2023/24 campaign is wrapped up.
While Mamelodi Sundowns appear to be getting close to sealing their seventh DStv Premiership title in a row, the Nedbank Cup is still up for grabs.
Matsatsantsa will visit Stellenbosch FC in the quarter-finals to battle for the semi-final spot.
With 10 league games left for them in the league, Hunt says they will take it one game at a time but he revealed that CAF competitions spot is what they are aiming for now.
The Tshwane side qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup last season and made it to the group stages.
However, they couldn’t secure a place in the last eight with USM Alger of Algeria and Modern Future of Egypt ending number one and two respectively in their group.
GAVIN HUNT SAYS SUPERSPORT ARE AIMING TO GO BACK TO CAF
“I think for us, we’ve got an eye on trying to get back in the CAF,” said Hunt after their win against Richards Bay on Sunday.
“I think there’s four teams for two spots in my opinion. So, that’s gonna be tough but we did it last season.
“I think it’s important for us to just concentrate, get to the next game and get to the next game.”
SuperSport haven’t lifted a trophy in the last five years having last won a silverware in 2019.
This was when they won MTN8, beating Highlands Park in the final under the guidance of Kaitano Tembo.
Meanwhile, Hunt last won the silverware during his tenure at Bidvest Wits when they lifted Telkom Knockout in 2017.
The Swanky Boys are currently third on the DStv Premiership log standings having accumulated 33 points. They have won nine, drawn six and lost five of the 20 games they have played.
