Gavin Hunt reveals his plans for Bradley Grobler

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has opened up about his plan for the club’s reliable goal-getter, Bradley Grobler.

The 36-year-old has served Matsatsantsa with distinction since joining them in 2013 from Ajax Cape Town, [Cape Town Spurs].

He is one of the longest-serving SuperSport United players at the moment, with over 250 appearances under his belt. This season, he has scored eight goals in the DStv Premiership and is behind Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Khanyisa Mayo on the goal charts.

Costa of Mamelodi Sundowns has ten goals, while Cape Town City’s Mayo has managed nine goals.

And as Grobler is ageing like fine wine, his coach, Gavin Hunt, believes it’s time to find a replacement.

“To reduce his workload. We need to find a replacement, but I think we got one or two who can certainly step up and prove it first.

“Sometimes we talk about younger players, we have got to give older players a bit of credit as well.

“What they go through, week in, week out, and he has had some big injuries, but he has kept going. And he is still scoring. We don’t have to throw them away too quickly. Age is not a problem as long as you get the job done.

“He [Grobler] got a goal last week, and he will certainly play a big part for us in the last games,” Hunt said.

Grobler is angling for a second PSL Golden Boot gong this season, as he won his first in the 2020/21 season with 16 strikes.

He has netted eight goals so far this season, with his most recent coming against Mamelodi Sundowns on 12 March.

Just like Themba Zwane, it looks like the Pretoria giants will struggle to find an identical replacement for the striker.
