Ailing African giants step up interest in Pitso Mosimane

An ailing African giant has stepped up interest in Pitso Mosimane as he edges near the end of his short-term contract.

Mosimane, who is with relegation-troubled Abha Club of Saudi Arabia, is said to be a target for several national teams and clubs across the continent.

Mosimane’s trophy cabinet speaks for itself. He has won the CAF Champions League a record three times, once with Mamelodi Sundowns and twice with Al Ahly.

He has also led Sundowns to success in the PSL and cup competitions. His international experience includes guiding Bafana Bafana at some point.

Several African countries are understood to be interested in securing Mosimane’s services as their new head coach.

These nations are reportedly looking for a proven winner to revive their fortunes after recent disappointments.

Furthermore, at club level, there are also several teams in the running to sign Mosimane. Some of the continent’s biggest clubs are said to be interested in bringing in the experienced coach in a bid to challenge for domestic and continental honours.

WHICH AILING GIANT HAS STEPPED UP INTEREST IN PITSO MOSIMANE

Mosimane has attracted the attention of Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco as his four-month contract with Abha nears its conclusion.

Wydad has reportedly initiated talks with Mosimane’s representatives in anticipation of his contract expiring at the end of the season.

A disastrous Champions League exit and league struggles have piled pressure on Wydad’s leadership.

Radio Mars claims the South African coach is open to a move to Morocco if offered a compelling proposition.

Wydad’s interest in the 59-year-old appears substantial, with reports suggesting they are making significant efforts to lure him.

This heightened interest coincides with growing discontent among fans regarding current coach Faouzi Benzarti’s performance.

Wydad’s early exit from the CAF Champions League group stage and their current 5th position in the Botola Pro League table have fuelled calls for a change in leadership.

Wydad’s hopes of qualifying for next year’s Champions League are fading. Their only remaining chance for continental competition rests on winning the Throne Cup, which would grant them a spot in the Confederation Cup.

Mosimane’s wife and agent, Moira Tlhagale, recently hinted at exploring other options due to the short-term nature of the Abha contract.

“I have already started talking to other teams… We’re just starting to build opportunities if Abha doesn’t work,” she told iDiski Times

Negotiations for a longer-term contract at Abha were unsuccessful, leading to the current four-month deal.

With his contract nearing completion, Mosimane is a potential target not only for Wydad but also for other Saudi clubs. The coming months are likely to see a flurry of activity surrounding the decorated coach’s next career move.
