Mosimane prepares for must-win clash against former Chiefs talisman

Pitso Mosimane continues his fight to save Saudi Arabia Pro’s Abha Club with another must-win clash lined up for this weekend.

Abha Club are currently 17th on the 18-team Saudi topflight table with 10 games before the curtain comes down on the 2023/24 season. They are six points ahead of bottom-placed Al Hazm.

Mosimane has been in charge of five games, winning twice, drawing once, and losing twice. His two wins came against Al Tai and Al Wehda, while the draw was in his first official match in charge against Al Taawoun in February. He lost to Al Fayha and Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq, a heavy 3-0 defeat.

A crucial clash is brewing as the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach prepares to face 15th-placed Al Riyadh. The two sides are separated by three points, having played the same number of games [24].

They are both aware that any slip-ups at this stage as three teams will get the chop at the end of the season.

WHO’S THE FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS TALISMAN PITSO MOSIMANE FACES IN MUST-WIN CLASH?

Interestingly, the fixture holds extra intrigue as Al Riyadh are captained by former Kaizer Chiefs talisman Knowledge Musona, a familiar face for Mosimane.

The retired Zimbabwe international is in his second season with Al Riyadh. He crossed the floor from Al Tai in June 2023. This season, the striker has scored four goals and provided one assist in 19 outings.

Al Riyadh, like Mosimane’s Abha, are embroiled in a relegation battle, making every point vital in their fight to stay afloat. Abha’s recent win against Al Wehda provided a much-needed boost, but the challenge remains significant.

This upcoming match presents a chance for Abha to climb further away from the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Musona will be looking to add to his tally and solidify Al Riyadh’s position in the league.

Abha visit Al Riyadh at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital and main financial hub. Kick-off is 21h00 [SA time].
