Talking points as Stellenbosch FC sink Chiefs at the Calabash
Stellenbosch FC continued with their fine form as they secured a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.
This was the two sides’ second match in three days after being in action this past Saturday.
Below are some talking points from this encounter between Amakhosi and Stellies.
KAIZER CHIEFS MAKE NO CHANGES
The Glamour Boys kept the same starting eleven that played out to a goalless draw with Cape Town City FC on Saturday.
Chiefs were boasted by Edson Castillo’s return from the FIFA break after missing the last game through suspension. He was on the bench.
Given Msimango wore the captain’s armband for the second time in a row.
DEVIN TITUS SCORES FOR STELLENBOSCH FC
The in-form Devin Titus broke the deadlock just a few seconds before the half-time break to put the Cape club in front.
In fact, Titus has moved to second place on the club’s all-time scoring charts with 17 goals. He’s now equal on goals at second place with Ashley Du Preez, who is now playing for Chiefs.
STELLENBOSCH FC’S UNBEATEN RUN CONTINUES
Stellenbosch are currently on fire under the guidance of coach Steve Barker and they seem not to slow down anytime soon.
Stellies are now unbeaten in 19 games across all competitions with their last defeat coming in October 2023.
From those 19 games, Barker’s boys have won 13 matches and drew six in the process.
This is the longest unbeaten run of all top-flight teams across allcompetitions, as per Opta Jabu statistics.
LOG STANDINGS
Chiefs are now sitting seventh on the log with 30 points after 22 matches, whereas Stellies are placed second with 38 points, after playing 21 games.
