AmaZulu edge 10-man CT City in the DStv Prem

AmaZulu FC bounced back to winning ways as they edged 10-man Cape Town City FC 1-0 on Sunday in a DStv Premiership encounter played at the DHL Stadium.

Sede Dion scored the only goal of the match in the second half. The victory saw AmaZulu move to 12th with 28 points. On the other hand, City are seventh with 33 points.

MATCH PLAYED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

The encounter was played without fans. This was due to bad weather conditions [strong winds] in Cape Town. The game was almost cancelled before the match commissioner gave a go-ahead without supporters.

CITY AND AMAZULU MAKE CHANGES IN THE STARTING LINE UPS

Both coaches Eric Tinkler and Pablo Franco made changes in the starting 11s from the mid-week matches.

The Citizens made three changes; Lorenzo Gordinho, Jaedin Rhodes and Jody Ah Shene were replaced by Mark van Heerden, Khanyisa Mayo and Heaven Sereetsi.

As for Usuthu, there were four changes. Tshepang Moremi, Victor Letsoalo, Taariq Fielies and Ethan Brooks came in for Sede Dion, George Maluleka, Mbongeni Gumede and Abbubaker Mobara.

KEANU CUPIDO SHOWN A STRAIGHT RED CARD

The hosts were reduced to 10-man in the first half after defender Keanu Cupido was shown a red card for a foul on AmaZulu attacker Victor Letsoalo. City sacrificed Darwin Gonzalez in attack and brought in Patrick Fisher just after the half-hour mark.

CITY REMAIN WINLESS IN 2024

The loss against AmaZulu saw City stretch their winless run in 2024 to eight matches in all competitions. The Cape Town outfit have registered four draws and four defeats.

OTHER LEAGUE FIXTURE PLAYED ON SUNDAY

In another match played on Sunday afternoon, Royal AM won 3-2 against Polokwane City FC at Harry Gwala Stadium.
