AmaTuks chase Magesi FC for automatic promotion

Motsepe Foundation Championship title contenders Magesi FC and AmaTuks have turned the chase for DStv Premiership promotion into a two-horse race.

The two have emerged as the frontrunners in the second tier, battling for the top spot and automatic promotion to the topflight next season.

The Limpopo-based side, Magesi, maintained their advantage at the summit of the log with a 2-0 win against Orbit College at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Magesi are sitting in the top spot in the Motsepe Foundation with 45 points after 23 games.

Elsewhere, AmaTuks kept their promotion ambitions alive after defeating Casric Stars 1-0 at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Friday. University of Pretoria have collected 44 points in 23 games and they are one point away from log leaders Magesi.

The Tshwane-based side has claimed 12 wins in the league, drawing eight while losing on three occasions. Third-placed Orbit are now eight points behind the log leaders following the weekend loss.

RELEGATION-THREATENED MILFORD FC CLAIM A VITAL WIN

Meanwhile, relegation-threatened Milford FC boosted their push to survive relegation after beating Upington City 3-0 at Princess Magogo Stadium.

The much-needed victory against Upington City took the point tally for Milford to 23 points and they are positioned 14th on the standings.

Another team in the relegation zone Platinum City Rovers walked away with a slender 1-0 victory over Venda FC at Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday. Rovers is languishing at 15th position with 23 points in 23 games.

In addition, Marumo Gallants suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss against JDR Stars in the dying minutes of the match on Sunday at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Gallants are rooted at the bottom of the log with 20 points.
