La Masia confirm decision on Daine Klate

Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit NB La Masia have confirmed their decision on the future of Daine Klate.

As the curtain will fall on the campaign next month, the second-tier league seems difficult to predict at both ends of the table.

With seven games to go, the Limpopo outfit Magesi FC are at the summit of the table with 45 points while the University of Pretoria are in second place with just one point behind.

Meanwhile, two clubs sitting in the relegation spots are Marumo Gallants [16th] and Platinum City Rovers [15th]. Gallants, who were relegated from the DStv Premiership last season, have collected 20 points while Platinum City Rovers have accumulated 23.

Next month, some clubs will stage last-minute battles to stay in the second tier. La Masia are among those struggling to climb up the table. They are two points away from the relegation zone.

WHAT IS LA MASIA’S DECISION ON DAINE KLATE

The club has confirmed the sacking of head coach Daine Klate after a string of poor results. “Yes, we have mutually decided to part ways after falling short of desired results on the field,” a club official said.

The former Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United winger had been with the club since October last year. He took over from Delano Hendrick who was redeployed to the Technical Director role at the club.

DAINE KLATE’S RECORD AT LA MASIA

MM Platinum played 18 matches under the tutelage of the 39-year-old coach. They won four including one Nedbank Cup qualifier against Baroka FC. They suffered six league defeats and drew the other eight.

This was the second senior team job for Klate since he cut his teeth on coaching at Chippa United. He was appointed the mentor of the Gqeberha-based side in the 2022/23 season. However, his tenure came to an end after just seven games in charge.

Before that, he was mentoring the reserve side since 2019 after hanging his boots as a professional player.
