What Luyolo Slatsha makes of Thamsanqa Mkhize’s leadership qualities

Cape Town City midfielder Luyolo Slatsha shared his thoughts on the leadership qualities of the club’s captain and long-serving player Thamsanqa Mkhize.

Slatsha, who has been playing alongside the veteran defender since his promotion to the first team in July 2023, described Mkhize as a very positive person who makes the game look simple.

He praised Mkhize’s leadership qualities, stating he is the best captain any footballer could wish for. Mkhize has been with the club since its reformation in 2016 and has played 237 games for the Cape club, scoring 8 goals and contributing 15 assists.

Since joining the Citizens in 2016, Mkhize has won the Telkom Knockout in their inaugural season in 2016/17, before lifting the MTN8 title in 2018.

LUYOLO SLATSHA ON THAMSANQA MKHIZE’S QUALITIES

Speaking about the Citizens captain in an interview with FARPost, Slatsha said that CT City are blessed to have a captain like Mkhize, who always gives “advice that will always build you.”

He further added that Mkhize is not outspoken when it’s not necessary, and he leads his team by example.

“Well, Thami Mkhize is a very positive person and he also believes in playing football. So, he always gives advice that will always build you,” said Slatsha.

“He never compromises in terms of playing from the back, and he’s a proper leader. And also, something I have observed from him when we go to camp is that he has a very healthy diet.”

“He’s a top professional. Another thing is that he’s not an outspoken person when is not necessary. He’s more of a person who will lead you via his example.”

Slatsha also noted that Mkhize has an incredible first touch he has “ever seen” in the game.

“So, he’s always running extra hard, eating well, and very busy. He probably has the best first touch I have ever seen. In terms of tactical ability he’s on top,” he added.
