Kaizer Chiefs slump continues with third straight defeat in KZN

Kaizer Chiefs suffered a third consecutive DStv Premiership defeat following a 1-0 loss to Richards Bay FC at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

This was one of the emotional weekends for Amakhosi as the club travelled to KwaZulu-Natal to face Richards Bay after burying one of their own, Luke Fleurs, on Saturday in Cape Town.

Below are the talking points from this encounter between the Natal Rich Boyz and the Soweto giants.

KAIZER CHIEFS NOT CLINICAL IN FRONT OF GOAL

Despite not being clinical, Chiefs looked to be the brighter team, as the home side gave the ball away cheaply sometimes.

The visitors needed a bit of magic to shake things up and take command of the showdown. Unfortunately, they couldn’t create much when they had a chance to.

KAIZER CHIEFS YET TO WIN A GAME IN LAST FIVE GAME

The Glamour Boys are yet to taste a win in their last five matches, which has put so much pressure on the team.

The last time the Cavin Johnson-coached side won a game was against Golden Arrows, when they defeated the side 1-0 on March 5, 2024, thanks to Wandile Duba’s solo goal at FNB Stadium.

FORTUNE MCINEKA SCORES FOR RICHARDS BAY

Fortune Mcineka broke the deadlock in the 64th minute to put his side in front. This was the only goal of the day which was enough to secure the home team maximum points.

RICHARDS BAY USE HOME GROUND ADVANTAGE

The home side made use of their home-ground advantage as their goal to survive relegation continued to see the light.

Fans came out in numbers to try to rally their team behind as results started to come up.

OTHER RESULTS

In another league fixture, Polokwane City FC couldn’t register a win against Cape Town City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. The Citizens held the Rise and Shine to a 2-2 draw.
