Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Joseph Molangoane has opened up on playing football in the ABC Motsepe League.
Molangoane recently returned to SAFA Limpopo ABC Motsepe League side Sunrise FC after his move to Platinum City Rovers collapsed.
A few days ago, this publication reported that the move did not materialise as both parties failed to agree in terms of salaries after the veteran midfielder had been training with City Rovers for the past three months.
The 36-year-old footballer is currently serving as a player/coach at Sunrise. He joined the Limpopo amateur side after being released by Marumo Gallants at the end of the last campaign.
JOSEPH MOLANGOANE ON PLAYING IN LOWER DIVISION
In an interview with FARPost recently, Molangoane said that he’s unfazed by playing in the amateur league because “football is football”, and it doesn’t really matter which league you’re playing in.
“You know, football is football. I really don’t have a problem playing in the ABC Motsepe League,” said Molangoane. I have accepted that I’m in the lower division, and I’m enjoying myself thus far. Something I have realised is that this is one of the toughest leagues I have ever played in.
“What makes it tough is that everyone in the lower division is hungry to go top [get promoted to the elite league].”
The experienced midfielder went on to state the difference between the amateur league and the SA elite league.
“The difference between the lower division and the top-flight is that players from amateur leagues want to be there on top, whereas those who are already playing in the top-flight feel they have reached where they want to be,” he added.
As things stand, Sunrise are languishing at the basement [10th] in Stream B with 10 points from 14 outings.
Molangoane is determined to help the side survive the chop with four games remaining.
“We have to fight enough just to win the remaining games we are left with. That’s the most important thing we can do right now,” Molangoane told this website.
