How Tim Sukazi ‘unintentionally’ spotted Fiacre Ntwari
TS Galaxy goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari has revealed how the club’s chairman Tim Sukazi spotted him unintentionally, leading to a switch that happened at the beginning of the season.
Ntwari has been instrumental in his side’s impressive run in all competitions. He has produced seven clean sheets in 16 matches across all competitions.
He made a big impression during the match against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup helping his side to reach the quarter-finals. The 24-year-old went on to become the number-one goalkeeper for Sead Ramovic’s side.
Ntwari joined the Mpumalanga-based club in July from the Rwandan side AS Kigali.
It appears that as a football fanatic, Sukazi just turned on his TV and ran across the AFCON qualifying match between Rwanda and Benin last year. Luckily enough, he never thought to switch the channel.
Ntwari was in goals and was hard to ignore. He says he kept out a number of balls and walked away with a Man of the Match accolade.
An impressed Sukazi subsequently made efforts to get in touch with the shot-stopper.
Ntwari says he wasn’t picturing himself in the DStv Premiership, thinking it was unachievable at the the time.
FIACRE NTWARI ON HOW TS GALAXY MOVE CAME ABOUT
“I think we were playing in March [last year] the AFCON qualifiers against Benin,” Ntwari said in an interview with FARPost.
“Chairman Tim Sukazi watched the game. He wasn’t watching maybe because he wanted the ‘keeper, he just watched the game because it was on TV. That’s what he told me.
“Then in that game I made nine saves or ten, then I became a Man of the Match. And then he started saying I need that ‘keeper.
“He started looking for my contact, then he got my agent’s contact number. Even him, I got him from that game, he told our captain that I want that ‘keeper. Then our captain connected me with the agent.
“Then the agent connected me with the chairman. The chairman said this was the ‘keeper I was looking for. We started talking and at the end of the season, I came this side.”
