Magesi FC and AmaTuks drop crucial points in promotion race
Magesi FC and AmaTuks dropped crucial points in the Motsepe Foundation Championship promotion race at the weekend.
The Limpopo-based outfit, Magesi, suffered a 2-0 defeat against ex-DStv Premiership side Maritzburg United at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday and missed an opportunity to extend their lead at the summit of the table.
Magesi sits top of the log standings after collecting 49 points in 26 matches. They won 14 games in the league, drew eight, and lost eight times.
Elsewhere, AmaTuks also on Saturday failed to collect maximum points after playing a goalless draw against Venda FC at Thohoyandou Stadium.
The match was surrounded by controversial officiating. AmaTuks were denied what looked like a penalty after a ball stuck a Venda FC defender on the hand in the box. Tuks also scored a goal that was ruled offside by the referee, Luxolo Badi, and his assistant.
AmaTuks remains in second spot on the league table with 45 points, and they are four points behind Magesi.
BAROKA FC RETURN TO WINNING WAYS
Meanwhile, Baroka FC returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Hungry Lions at Windhoek Draught Park Stadium on Saturday.
Before beating Hungry Lions, Baroka were winless in their past three encounters in the second tier. Bakgakga dropped points against Casric Stars, NB La Masia, and Black Leopards.
In addition, Black Leopards brushed aside Orbit College with a 3-0 win at Thohoyandou Stadium on Friday. The loss against Leopards dented Orbit College’s chances of securing a spot in the promotional playoffs.
