Gavin Hunt expresses concerns over Peter Mokaba pitch

SuperSport United mentor Gavin Hunt has become the latest coach to express concerns over the Peter Mokaba Stadium’s pitch.

Hunt raised the issue after their 2-1 loss to Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership on Saturday. The Stadium is home to Sekhukhune United while Polokwane City, Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United also host some matches at the venue.

The Polokwane Municipality has addressed the concerns raised about the state of the facility’s pitch.

GAVIN HUNT IS NOT IMPRESSED BY THE PETER MOKABA PITCH

“I thought we were good tonight on a very difficult pitch. The pitch was really [bad], I don’t know what is happening to this field. So yeah, it is what it is,” said Hunt.

Peter Mokaba has always been considered to have one of the best pitches in the country. But in recent weeks, there has been a deterioration in terms of the playing surface.

MUNICIPALITY AWARE OF THE CURRENT STATE OF THE PETER MOKABA STADIUM PITCH

“The pitch has been a concern for the past few weeks and I think it’s as a result of the changing season,” Sebaka explained to FARPost.

“However, we are also aware that for the previous season, we did not do a full spring treatment. But we are looking to do that at the end of May in preparation for the new season.”

“For us, it’s a life cycle of a pitch that has come to an end. Hence I am saying we are going to be doing a full and proper treatment come the end of the season,” he said.

Chiefs are set to return to Peter Mokaba on Tuesday, 7 May when they host TS Galaxy.
