Baroka FC makes late push for DStv Premiership promotion
Baroka FC claimed a vital win against Upington City FC on Tuesday, making a late push to secure a spot in the PSL Promotional Playoffs as they look to return to the DStv Premiership next season.
The Limpopo-based side beat Upington 1-0 at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium to take their point tally for the season to 42 points to move third on the log.
It was Baroka FC’s second successive win in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after defeating Hungry Lions FC 2-1 last weekend.
Elsewhere, Maritzburg United stumbled in their race to finish in the Promotional Playoffs spot after playing to a 1-1 draw against Venda FC. The draw against Venda FC left Maritzburg on the fifth position with 39 points.
In their previous match, the Team of Choice beat log leaders Magesi FC 2-0 at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Meanwhile, Magesi FC claimed another vital win to maintain their position at the summit of the log standings.
LOG LEADERS MAGESI FC RETURN TO WINNING WAYS
The Clinton Larsen-coached returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Platinum City Rovers after losing to Maritzburg the previous weekend.
Magesi won 15 games in the league, drawing seven, and losing five times in 26 matches. They are currently at the top of the table with 52 points.
In addition, AmaTuks played to a 1-1 draw against JDR Stars at Tuks Stadium on Wednesday as their hopes for automatic promotion took a knock.
