Batsi: Forever Young? ‘Madala Wale 2000’ vows to keep playing at 41
At 41, most footballers are hanging up their boots, but not Atisang Batsi, as the midfielder has made it clear that he has no intention of calling it quits anytime soon.
Orbit College FC veteran midfielder Batsi is showing no signs of slowing down in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. And with an unwavering passion for the game and a seemingly ageless physique, Batsi is out to prove that age is just a number.
Batsi will be turning 42 on the 27th of September, 2024. So far, he has played 23 games across all competitions for the North West-based side and has scored one goal.
He is an important squad member who captains the side, having played a significant role during the 2023 SAFA ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs, helping Orbit secure promotion to the SA football second tier.
The experienced midfielder is leading his side by example as he has put in some stellar displays and doing well for someone of his age.
After helping Orbit gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, he was named the Sportstar of the Year at the 2023 North West Sports Awards, which took place on the 18th of November at Mmabatho Convention Center in Mahikeng.
ATISANG BATSI NOT PLANNING TO HANG UP HIS BOOTS
The 2023 ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs Player of the Tournament has stated that he has no desire to hang up his boots just yet.
“Definitely, yes. I still want to go on and play after this season,” Batsi told FARPost when asked if he plans to continue playing football after the current campaign.
“However, I think the other following season [2025/26 season] will be my last season, and take some rest because it would be ideal for me to hang up my boots while I’m still good at what I do.
“But let’s see what happens. If the legs still allow me, maybe I can still push up until.”
Batsi continued: “And the most important thing is to enjoy playing football and when you enjoy, the results will just come.”
As things stand, Orbit are placed sixth on the Motsepe Foundation Championship log standings with 39 points after 27 games.
The side will be back in action on Sunday, 5 May 2024, against JDR Stars away from home. The kickoff will start at 15:00.
