Thembinkosi Lorch reacts to winning his first DStv Premiership title

Mamelodi Sundowns star and former PSL Footballer of the Season Thembinkosi Lorch has reacted to winning his first-ever DStv Premiership title.

Sundowns won their seventh consecutive league title on Thursday evening. They did it in style after thrashing rivals Kaizer Chiefs 5-1 at FNB Stadium in Soweto.

In addition, the Tshwane giants clinched the league with six matches remaining to conclude the season and they are yet to taste defeat.

In his professional football career, Lorch had four trophies that he won with his previous employers; Orlando Pirates. These are, namely, three MTN8 titles and one Nedbank Cup.

The 2019 PSL Players’ Player of the Season linked with Sundowns in January, midway through the current season.

His move to Sundowns came as a surprise to the SA football fraternity, as he was one of the Pirates’ big players.

THEMBINKOSI LORCH ON WINING HIS FIRST LEAGUE TITLE

The 30-year-old says it’s a dream come true to be finally a league champion. He further thanked the club for the opportunity that has been given to him.

“I knew when I came here that the first thing is to win the league. I’ve won other cups, but I’ve never won the league [title] before. I’m happy and I’m very grateful for the opportunity,” Lorch told SundownsTV.

So far in Sundowns colours, ‘Nyoso’ has made 16 appearances in all competitions. He has been directly involved in seven goals after being on target five times and grabbed two assists.

In just a few months, Lorch can win two titles with Masandawana. The Chloorkop-based side is in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

They will face another in-form outfit, Stellenbosch FC, for a spot in the final. Kickoff at Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday, 5 May is at 15H00.
