Trialist goalie Tom Amos gives rave reviews about the DStv Prem

Swedish goalkeeper Tom Amos has given rave reviews about the DStv Premiership following his trial stint at Cape Town City FC.

After leaving Israel, goalkeeper Tom Amos is on a mission to find a new home in the vibrant South African football scene.

Amos says he is itching to break into the DStv Premiership having spent the better part of his career in his native country, Sweden. Before coming to try his luck in SA, the 26-year-old terminated his contract with Israeli club Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

That was largely influenced by the outbreak of the war, which left him feeling unsafe in the ravaged environment.

“I took the step to leave Israel as a precaution for my own safety. That is why I left and came back home. But the club I played was good but safety comes first for me and it was wise to go back home to my family and restart,” Amos told FARPost.

Amos has a reputation for making cat-like reflexes, and his impressive shot-stopping skills make him exceptional.

He spent three weeks trailing at CT City. Though they were impressed by him, The Cape club could not immediately sign the goalkeeper.

FARPost sources have revealed that Eric Tinkler’s team is willing to sign Tom for the 2025/2026 season.

THE SWEDISH GOALIE PRAISES THE DStv PREMIERSHIP

The goalkeeper has waxed lyrical about the DStv Premiership, being impressed by the professionalism of the Mother City side.

“The league is very professional. Cape Town City were professional, starting with the Chairman and the coach, Eric,” he added.

“It’s unfortunate that they could not sign me immediately, but the experience I got opened my eyes. Everything is modern. I got to experience the liveliness and passion that is in South African football. As a goalkeeper, I’m definitely available to play in this league.

“I went there with the intention of joining Cape Town City but I’ve realised that the league has competition and is exceptional.

“And I can hope to play for even bigger teams like Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns,” he added.

Amos is yet to give up, as he set his sights on the South African top-flight, because of its high energy and passion.

As it stands, CT City extended Darren Keet’s contract by two years to keep him at the club until 2026. Keet has done well for Tinkler’s men, keeping 23 clean sheets in 61 appearances across all competitions.

City also have 31-year-old goalie Bongani Mpandle as Keet’s deputy in the goalkeeping department.

In addition, Amos was offered to Cape Town Spurs, but no deal could be completed with the Premiership returnees.
