Baroka FC, JDR Stars breathe down AmaTuks’ neck in playoff race
The battle for promotion to the DStv Premiership through the playoffs has intensified in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as Baroka FC and JDR Stars are putting pressure on AmaTuks in the chase.
On Sunday, Baroka and JDR Stars played out to a 1-1 draw at Global Stadium, closing the gap on second-placed AmaTuks to two points.
AmaTuks are on 48 points with one game remaining in the league. On the other hand, Baroka are currently sitting third on the log standings with 46 points, while the Hammer Boys occupy fourth place with the same number of points.
Tuks, who missed out on the automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership, failed to collect maximum points and solidify their place in the top two.
The University of Pretoria forced a 1-1 draw in the dying minutes of the match against Pretoria Callies in the Tshwane derby at TUT Stadium on Sunday.
Baroka FC, JDR Stars, and AmaTuks are currently the frontrunners, vying for the second and third-place finishes that secure a playoff spot for a chance to reach the top league in South Africa.
CHAMPIONS MAGESI FC PLAY TO DRAW AGAINST CASRIC STARS
Meanwhile, Magesi FC, who have already gained promotion to the Premiership for the next season, played to an entertaining 2-2 draw against Casric Stars.
The Limpopo-based outfit is sitting comfortably at the summit of the log with 56 points in the penultimate round of the 2023/24 campaign.
In addition, NB La Masia fell into the relegation zone after losing 1-0 against Marumo Gallants, another club threatened with relegation. Gallants’ win moved them to 13th place, while La Masia dropped to 15th.
The final round will determine which club will be relegated to the ABC Motsepe League alongside Platinum City Rover.
