SuperSport United target CT Spurs attacker

After Cape Town Spurs’ drop to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, SuperSport United has set their sights on one of the relegated club’s standout players.

Matsatsantsa have earmarked the attacker as a transfer target for the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.

The Tshwane-based side has had inconsistent performances in the current campaign under the guidance of Gavin Hunt.

SuperSport is currently sitting sixth on the log standings with 40 points after 28 matches and they will miss out on the CAF Interclubs competitions for next season. United can only accumulate 46 points with two games left to finish fourth on the table.

In the previous season, SuperSport qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup after finishing third on the log behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

WHO IS SUPERSPORT UNITED TARGETING FROM CAPE TOWN SPURS?

With Spartans already planning for the upcoming campaign, FARPost understands they have shown interest in signing Spurs’ forward Ashley Cupido.

The talented forward was instrumental when the Urban Warriors gained promotion to the Premiership last year. However, Cupido’s six goals this season could not help Spurs to retain their status.

“SuperSport United are planning for next season and they have shown interest in Cape Town Spurs striker Ashley Cupido,” a source said.

“Remember, SuperSport have Etiosa Ighodaro who’s on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns but at this stage, we don’t know if they can keep him for another season.

“So they are looking to get a reliable striker who can share the responsibilities of scoring goals with Bradley Grobler. I mean Grobler is not getting any younger and he’s injury-prone, that’s why Ashley Cupido is on their wishlist.”

Meanwhile, several media reports linked Cupido to the big three of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Kaizer Chiefs last year.
