CT City beat Sundowns on final day to end Masandawana’s invincible dream

Cape Town City FC’s 1-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns ended the Brazilians’ invincible dream for an unbeaten season in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership, a feat never before achieved in the PSL era.

The encounter took place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane on Saturday afternoon.

Jaedin Rhodes’ 60th-minute goal made the difference to earn the visitors maximum points away from home.

Below are the talking points.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS FAIL TO ACHIEVE THE INVINCIBLES SEASON

Following their 1-0 loss to the Cape club this afternoon, Bafana Ba Style finished this campaign unbeaten in 29 games in the SA elite league this term.

Despite the defeat, Masandawana are the first PSL team to go unbeaten in their first 29 games of the league.

It took 631 days for Sundowns to taste defeat. The last time the Rulani Mokwena-coached side had lost a league match was on 2 September 2022 when they suffered a 2-1 defeat to cross-town rivals SuperSport United.
