Should Pirates sign Riaan Hanamub? Andries Sebola weighs in

Former Orlando Pirates striker Andries Sebola has weighed in on whether the Buccaneers should sign AmaZulu FC defender Riaan Hanamub.

Pirates have reportedly shown interest in signing Hanamub from AmaZulu ahead of the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.

The Soweto giants are looking to beef up their left-back position after Paseka Mako missed most of the season due to an injury setback.

In the absence of the Mako, Pirates have used Innocent Maela and Deon Hotto who has been converted from the attacking position.

Meanwhile, Hanamub has been one of the outstanding performers for Usuthu since joining the club two seasons ago from Chippa United.

This season, the Namibian international featured in 36 matches across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing three assists. He was also part of the Namibian national team that participated at the 2023 AFCON held in Ivory Coast.

With the July transfer window looming, Sebola says Hanamub can fit perfectly at Pirates.

“Riaan Hanamub can be can be a good inclusion for Orlando Pirates because they going to Africa [CAF Interclubs competitions] next season,” Sebola told FARPost.

“Of course, they have Paseka Mako who’s still injured, Deon Hotto is also playing in that position and he’s really good. The combination between Hotto and [Relebohile] Mofokeng is good.

“So, Hanamub will add value and I think it will disadvantage Innocent Maela because his days of playing will be limited. I would say signing Hanamub is a good thing because it brings healthy competition to that position.

“Even Mako is still young and he can learn from Hanamub, I even read somewhere that Hotto will be happy to see Hanamub come and compete with him at left-back.”
