Lucky Lekgwathi: The key changes Pirates need to challenge Sundowns
Orlando Pirates legend Lucky Lekgwathi believes his ex-club has what it takes to challenge for the DStv Premiership title next season, only if they make a few key changes. Pirates finished second behind Mamelodi Sundowns who won their seventh consecutive title.
The Buccaneers finished 23 points behind their rivals. They have qualified for the CAF Champions League. Lekgwathi has attributed this to a lack of consistency by his former side when it comes to playing personnel.

“I think for them that sometimes the chopping and changing [of players] kills them,” he told FARPost.
“They do it at the wrong time when they win two games they start changing the team. If you can continue with the same team for more than 10 games, it will help them.
“But you collect points after that you now start changing the team and they start to lose or draw and also kill the momentum of the team. So I think that has been the downfall,” he added.
HOW ORLANDO PIRATES CAN CHALLENGE MAMELODI SUNDOWNS FOR THE TITLE
“If the coach can just have the consistency of winning games. If they can win 12 games in a row they can challenge Sundowns. But now you win two or three games and the supporters are happy and then the next game you lose.
“At that time Sundowns are winning. So if they can learn from that by being consistent in terms of collecting points as much as they can,” he said.
“If you compare Sundowns and Pirates, Sundowns don’t lose games against anyone. Whenever you get a team that [you can score many goals], like they did to Golden Arrows, you need to do that.”
