Broos’ honest admission on rumours linking Adams with Sundowns
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has given an honest admission about the transfer rumours linking Stellenbosch FC midfielder Jayden Adams with Mamelodi Sundowns.
The highly-rated midfielder has reportedly made it into the wishlist of the big spenders Sundowns after an impressive season with Stellies.
Adams played a big role in Stellenbosch winning the inaugural 2023 Carling Knockout Cup after beating TS Galaxy 5-4 on penalties last year in December. He was also crucial as the Western Cape-based outfit finished third on the DStv Premiership log standings to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.
The 23-year-old midfield maestro has featured in 35 games across all competitions for Stellenbosch, scoring three goals and providing eight assists.
His consistent performances with the Steve Barker-coached team earned him a place in the Bafana Bafana squad that won a bronze medal at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
With Sundowns believed to be the big admirers of Adams, his coach Steve Barker said Masandawana will have to fork out R40 million to secure the signature of the midfielder.
WHAT BROOS SAID ABOUT JAYDEN ADAMS’ LINKS WITH SUNDOWNS?
Meanwhile, Bafana coach Hugo says the move to Sundowns will not be good for Adams and he might not play regularly.
“I’m a little bit afraid but first I have to say that it’s normal for Sundowns to want a player like this. He’s a good player but I’m a little bit afraid if he’s going to Sundowns, he won’t play that much,” Broos told the media.
“Jayden is a player who should play and if I was a coach of Sundowns I would do the same, I would want Jayden because he’s a good player but is it a good solution for the player?
“It’s okay if he stays at Stellenbosch because they’re also playing the Confederation Cup. There are two things [to consider] as a young player when big teams are coming for you, is the move sporting or financial, but it’s also difficult to look at all of these things and not look at the financial part.
“Players look at the financial part and sometimes is not good for their career because they don’t play anymore, they don’t succeed.
“It’s not so easy for a young player going to Sundowns and there are big expectations, mentally it’s not so easy and it’s not easy for the coach also.”
