Two more PSL clubs join race to sign Zim’s number one goalie

Two more PSL clubs have entered the race to sign Zimbabwe’s number one goalkeeper, Donovan Bernard, who has previously been linked to SuperSport United, FARPost has learnt.

The goalkeeper, Donovan Bernard is currently plying his trade in Zimbabwe’s PSL at Chicken Inn FC. Earlier this year, he opted to extend his stay at the Zimbabwean club after SuperSport United delayed making their offer.

Polokwane City were also angling to lure him but nothing materialised. His agent, Gibson Mahachi is on the record saying SuperSport United are still keen to take him on board this coming season.

The Gavin Hunt-coached side is likely to lose Ricardo Goss who is on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. With Denis Onyango poised for retirement, Goss could return to his parent club.

For Matsatsantsa, Bernard has been viewed as a potential long-term solution for their goalkeeping problems.

In 13 Zimbabwe PSL matches, the 28-year-old has been impressive and has kept eight clean sheets. As such two more PSL clubs have entered the race to sign the steady goalkeeper.

FARPost sources have revealed that newly promoted outfit Magesi FC and Moroka Swallows have made inquiries. The transfer window opens on 1 June.

The goalie, however, still has one year and a half remaining on his contract. Magesi will be hoping to reinforce their goalkeeping department which already has another Zimbabwean, Elvis Chipezeze.

It remains to be seen which of the four clubs, SuperSport United, Polokwane City, Magesi FC and Moroka Swallows, he will join.

BERNARD’S CHANCE TO IMPRESS

Bernard has a chance to impress and probably attract more interest during the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He leads Zimbabwe’s goalkeeping department as they brace to face Lesotho and Bafana Bafana on the 7th and 11th of June respectively. Both matches will be played in South Africa at Orlando Stadium and Free State Stadium respectively.
