Baroka opt for ‘pound for pound’ Mammila to replace Malesela

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC are set for a reunion with their former CEO, Morgan Mammila, who will replace Dan Malesela.

FARPost has established that Mammila will return to the club as head coach for the remainder of the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs.

He recently parted ways with DStv Premiership side Chippa United, where he was the technical director. The club decided to cut ties with the man nicknamed ‘Pound for Pound’ after working alongside Kwanele Kopo and Thabo September.

His return to Baroka comes after the club placed Malesela on suspension on Monday afternoon. The suspension of Malesela was confirmed by the club on Monday.

Despite numerous attempts to get the reasons behind Malesela’s suspension, club chairman Khurishi Mphahlele could only confirm that Malesela is set to face a disciplinary process. “We can’t disclose that currently. But he is suspended until the investigation is finalised,” said Mphahlele.

Mammila was the CEO when Baroka gained promotion to the Premier Division during the 2015/16 season.

He was in charge when big names such as Doctor Khumalo, Siphelele Ntshangase and Wedson Nyirenda joined the club. He has also been credited for scouting current Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa to the team.

But he left after being recruited to join Chippa United, where he had an on-and-off relationship until he left at the end of last season.

Baroka will host Richards Bay FC in their second PSL promotion playoffs match at the Global Village on Saturday, 8 June.
