SAFA president issues update on coaching requirements
The president of the SA Football Association [SAFA], Danny Jordaan, says there has been a request to delay the implementation of the coaching requirements by a season.
SAFA made a decision during their congress last year that from the beginning of the 2024/25 season, they would be implementing the coaching requirements. The requirements are part of the CAF Club licensing regulations.
This means that a coach in the DStv Premiership and Motsepe Foundation Championship would be required to have a CAF A license. An assistant coach in both divisions would be required to have a B license.
DANNY JORDAAN ANSWERS WHETHER COACHING REQUIREMENTS FOR PSL COACHES KICK START AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 2024/25 SEASON
Speaking to Journalists on Tuesday, Jordaan hinted that the implementation of the coaching requirements could be delayed by a season.
“I will have to check with the technical department because Congress took a decision on this matter. So that position is clear,” he said.
“It’s just that there was a request from the League to say, ‘We want to send the coaches [for the courses]. But can you find a gap in the season? So that we can make sure they are compliant.
“There is on their side an eagerness that we need to give them a chance for their coaches. Remember this is employment, there is no other income,” he said.
“[Maybe] we must do that with the media to say that by 12th of September if you do not write a good article, that’s the end of you [he said jokingly].
