PSL Playoffs: Vilakazi on whether he has advantage over Mammila

Richards Bay FC head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has responded to whether he has an advantage over the Baroka FC interim coach Morgan Mammila ahead of their PSL Promotional Playoffs clash.

In their playoff opener on Wednesday, the Natal Rich Boyz got off to a winning start, defeating AmaTuks 1-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Baroka, meanwhile, stumbled in their first match of the mini-league tournament, falling 1-0 to AmaTuks away from home last Sunday.

Subsequently, the Limpopo side dismissed head coach Dan Malesela. The club has appointed former Chippa United head coach and Technical Director Morgan Mammila as an interim replacement.

Mammila and Vilakazi previously worked together at Chippa United. Vilakazi, formerly a coach at Golden Arrows, was serving as Technical Director during Mammila’s time as head coach.

Following the Natal Rich Boyz’s match on Wednesday, Vilakazi spoke to the media, acknowledging the advantage of having previously worked with Mammila.

He believes he knows the former football administrator’s football philosophy and what he prefers.

VUSI VILAKAZI SAYS HE KNOWS MORGAN MAMMILA’S PHILOSOPHY

“It does [give me an advantage] in a way that maybe when I look at the coach, I know what he prefers, I know his identity and philosophy, but there will be many changes, to be honest,” said Vilakazi.

Despite the advantage of prior collaboration, Vilakazi believes Mammila won’t make significant changes to Baroka’s squad. He confidently declared that Richards Bay is well-prepared to exploit any weaknesses Mammila introduces.

‘WE’LL PUNISH THEM COMFORTABLY SO’

“They don’t have time to change. So, there will be a true reflection of what they worked on during the season irrespective of a new coach,” he added. “If they change, I think that’s the biggest mistake they will be making because we’ll punish them comfortably so.”

The match will take place on Saturday, 8 June, at the Global Stadium at 3pm.
