Sundowns striker raves about Grobler’s unique playing style
A Mamelodi Sundowns striker has heaped praise on veteran SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler, highlighting his unique playing style.
Grobler finished fourth on the DStv Premiership leading goal-scorer chart with 11 goals, just five goals behind Tshegofatso Mabasa, who’s leading the chart in the 2023/24 season.
Grobler has established himself as a pillar of consistency in the DStv Premiership. Season after season, he finds himself among the contenders for the Golden Boot award.
At some point last season, even Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena expressed his admiration for the talented goal-scorer, Grobler, citing he wished he had that type of a finisher in his squad.
Mokwena’s remarks came when Masandawana played out to a 1-1 draw with SuperSport in a league tie at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in March 2024. Grobler scored the equaliser on the day after Teboho Mokoena broke the deadlock from a long range.
Masandawana forward Etiosa Ighodaro has opened up on playing alongside experienced striker Grobler during his loan spell at SuperSport United. The Nigerian-born striker joined Matsatsantsa on a season-long loan from the Brazilians at the beginning of the just-ended 2023/24 DStv Premiership term.
During his stay at Sundowns’ cross-town rivals, Ighodaro played 34 matches across all competitions, finding the back of the net on eight occasions and contributing two assists.
With the 2023/24 PSL season having ended, the talented 22-year-old footballer returned to his parent club, Bafana Ba Style, where his future will be decided. He has revealed to this publication that he doesn’t want to go out on another loan next campaign.
ETIOSA IGHODARO ON PLAYING WITH BRADLEY GROBLER
In an interview with FARPost, Ighodaro stated that he had never played with an experienced and good frontman like Grobler in his football career before. He went on to commend Grobler’s way of doing things on the field of the play.
“To be honest, I have learnt a lot from him. He is a very good striker to play along with,” Ighodaro told FARPost. Since my football career, I have never actually played with an experienced and good striker like Bradley Grobler.
“I have learnt too much from him you know, from his composure, finishing, and his dedication to the game is just fantastic.”
ETIOSA IGHODARO ON WORKING UNDER COACH GAVIN HUNT
Ighadaro also revealed how it is to work under the tutelage of Gavin Hunt, who has won the PSL title four times.
“He is a coach who always wants to win, and there is no smaller game for him. All the games are treated with the same respect,” he added.
“He knows how to bring out the fighting spirit from his players. He is a coach who is hard-working, and wants results all the time.”
SuperSport finished the season in position seven in the DStv Premiership table with 44 points from 30 games.
