Chippa United considering huge transfer swoop for Sundowns star

Chippa United are considering a huge transfer swoop for a Mamelodi Sundowns star ahead of the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.

The Chilli Boys finished 12th on the log standings in the just-ended campaign after collecting 34 points in 30 matches. They won eight matches in the league, drew 10 and lost 10 times.

In a bid to improve upon last season’s disappointing finish outside the top eight, Chippa United are planning a significant squad overhaul.

United have already started wielding an axe after firing the technical director Morgan Mammila. The Administrator-turned coach has since taken over the coaching role at Baroka FC on an interim basis following the suspension of Dan Malesela.

CHIPPA UNITED PLANNING BIG TRANSFER MOVE FOR DENIS ONYANGO

With the transfer window opening in the coming weeks, Chippa United have earmarked Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango as the transfer target.

The Gqeberha-based outfit is already planning on replacing their goal-minder Stanley Nwabali who is on the radar of several clubs locally and abroad.

Interestingly, Chippa’s second-choice keeper Lloyd Kazapua is also on the wish list of Sekhukhune United which could leave the club with only Darren Johnson in the goalkeeping department.

“Chippa United are facing a bit of shake-up in their goalkeeping department. They are searching for an experienced goalkeeper,” a source told FARPost.

“They have identified Denis Onyango as the perfect replacement should Nwabali and Kazapua leave during this transfer window.”

“Onyango has a lot of experience and he won every trophy on offer. His presence can change the mentality of everyone at the club.”

Meanwhile, the Chippa Mpengesi-owned team joins SuperSport United in the race for Onyango’s signature. The Ugandan international will see his contract end on the 30th of June 2024.
