The 2023/24 ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs draw for the semi-finals was conducted on Thursday afternoon after the last round of group stage matches.
Kruger United from Mpumalanga will play Thames of North West in the first semi-final set to kick off at 11:00 at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium on Friday, 21 June 2024.
Meanwhile, Njampela FC of KwaZulu-Natal will take on Highbury of the Eastern Cape in the second semi-final. The showdown will take place at 15:00.
The SAFA ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs semi-finals games will be broadcast live on SABC Sport.
Njampela qualified after finishing top of Group A with four points after beating Western Cape side FN Rangers 2-1 in the first game of the day.
On the other hand, Dondol Stars of Gauteng province played out a 2-2 draw with the hosts NC Professionals in the second game in Group C. The draw was not enough for both sides to book a place in the semis.
Mpumalanga’s Kruger United were able to progress to the last four following the 2-2 draw between Dondol and NC Professionals. United managed to collect four points to top Group C.
HEARTBREAK FOR DONDOL STARS
Following Dondol’s exit in the playoffs, coach Vincent Rammoni expressed his disappointment and noted that they “will try again” next season.
“We will go back and try again. Probably, we will come back again next season to other playoffs,” said Rammoni.
In the last game of the day, Thames FC of the North West secured a 1-0 win against Mangaung Unite from Free State in Group B. The win saw Thames join Eastern Cape’s Highbury FC who topped the group to the semi-finals.
The two teams to qualify for the finals will gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The final will take place at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium on Sunday, 23 June 2024, with the kick-off set for 15:00.
