Kruger United coach makes decision on his future after gaining promotion to PSL
Kruger United coach Vusi Mkhatshwa has made a decision on his future after helping the Mpumalanga-based outfit gain promotion to the PSL in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
On Friday afternoon, Kruger defeated Thames of North West 1-0 in the first semi-final of the SAFA‘s ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs.
As a result, the victory was enough to earn them promotion to the SA second-tier league. The semi-final showdown took place at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington, Northern Cape.
It is worth noting that the team was only established 10 months ago.
WHAT’S COACH VUSI MKHATSHWA’S DECISION?
After the game against Thames, Mkhatshwa confirmed that he will retire from coaching.
Mkhatshwa received a perfect send-off as his side gained promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship and still stands a chance to win the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs title to put a cherry on top.
Kruger will lock horns with Eastern Cape’s Highbury FC in the final on Sunday, 23 June at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium. The game will start at 15:00.
In fact, this is not the first time he promoted a Mpumalanga side to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, as he has done it before with Mbombela United during the 2014/15 season.
“It means a lot because we started like we were not going to make it. Another thing is that we have not even completed one year; we are only 10 months, and now we are in the NFD,” said Mkhatshwa.
“So, today is a good send-off for me as I’m retiring. I have been in this game for quite a long time. This province is my lucky charm because the last time I came here with Mbombela I got to the NFD. And today we are here, and I’m going back to the NFD.”
Mkhatshwa continued: “I may be back with the supporting stuff but not as a coach.”
He also coached teams such as TS Galaxy, Witbank Spurs, and Liver Brothers, to mention a few.
