Danny Jordaan sheds light on SAFA Technical Director DC matter

SAFA president Danny Jordaan has shed light on the alleged disciplinary hearing matter against the association’s technical director, Walter Steenbok.

Steenbok has been credited for transforming the technical department at the SA Football Association since joining in September 2022.

But the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs head of scout has reportedly been summoned to a DC by the association scheduled for Tuesday, 25 June on charges of gross misconduct.

According to reports, SAFA is accusing Steenbok of serious offences, including misconduct, mismanagement, negligence, and insubordination. He’s also alleged to have violated SAFA’s rules and procedures.

PRESIDENT DANNY JORDAAN HAS HIS SAY ON THE WALTER STEENBOK DC CASE ISSUE

But the SAFA president Jordaan insists there is nothing ‘sinister’ about the Steenbok case. He says the association is happy with his work.

“Well, it’s an administration issue. Every place where you work, you have people going to DC,” he told FARPost on the sidelines of the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs in Upington.

“There is nothing wrong with it. [Nelson] Mandela went to the courts, do you remember? He went to the courts, and he had to answer. There is nothing sinister or nothing wrong with it,” he said.

SAFA REMAINS HAPPY WITH THE WORK DONE BY THE TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

“He has done a great job, and he is still continuing to do a great job,” Jordaan added. “We never had so many A-licensed coaches in our country. We always said that in order to transform football in our country, we must have more qualified coaches. When we started [with Steenbok], we had no qualified coaches, even in the Premier League [DStv Premiership].

“They were sitting there with the D, C and B [CAF] licenses but not with the A license. Now we have a programme driven by the TD to make sure that we have qualified coaches throughout the length and breadth of this country, and we are happy.”

“More and more people are having coaching qualifications and we are happy with that.”
