Cape Town City sign Elson Sithole from Magesi

Cape Town City FC have acquired the services of goalkeeper Elson Sithole ahead of the 2024/25 PSL season.

Sithole joins the Citizens from the newly promoted DStv Premiership side Magesi FC.

CAPE TOWN CITY FC OFFICIAL STATEMENT

“Cape Town City is pleased to announce that Elson Ayanda Sithole has agreed professional terms with the club,” reads the club’s statement.

“The 23-year-old goalkeeper joins the Citizens from Magesi FC. Welcome Elson.”

Sithole was part of the squad that secured automatic promotion to the SA elite league after a successful 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The Limpopo club finished on the summit of the SA second-tier log standings with 57 points after 30 matches. Magesi managed to win 16 games, draw nine, and lose five games in the process.

Sithole’s signing comes after the Cape club parted ways with shot-stopper Bongani Mpandle, who left the side alongside Thabiso Kutumela, Joe Paciencia, Relebogile Mokhuoane, and Khanya Leshabela.

The 23-year-old goal-minder is expected to add value to CT City’s goalkeeping department as the team intends to stay competitive in the upcoming term.

Last season, Sithole did not get much playing time as he only made three appearances for Magesi.

He was more like a second-choice goalkeeper, having made the bench on 26 occasions for the Clinton Larsen-coached side.

Sithole is the Citizens’ fifth acquisition of this transfer window period. This comes after the signings of Namibian international Prins Tjiueza, and experienced midfielders Haashim Domingo and Fortune Makaringe. The side also signed youngster Kayden Francis.

With these new acquisitions, CT City would like to better their position in the upcoming season under the tutelage of Eric Tinkler.

Last campaign, the Citizens finished in position five after collecting 45 points from 30 matches.
