Junior Khanye names one star Chiefs shouldn’t have released
Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye has named one star that the club shouldn’t have released ahead of the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.
On Tuesday, FARPost reported that Chiefs have parted ways with four senior players whose contracts are expiring on 30 June.
The quartet that has cut ties with Amakhosi are Keagan Dolly, Sifiso Hlanti, Njabulo Ngcobo and Siyethemba Sithebe.
The Soweto giants are reshuffling their squad as they’re preparing for a new era under highly-rated coach Nasreddine Nabi, who will leave Morocco’s side as AS FAR Rabat when the season ends.
Chiefs have since extended George Matlou and Edmilson Dove’s contracts by one year.
WHICH PLAYER IS JUNIOR KHANYE TALKING ABOUT
The outspoken Khanye is saddened to see Chiefs let go of Njabulo Ngcobo. He believes Ngcobo should have stayed for one or two seasons and fought for his place because he’s one of the most talented centre-backs he has seen. Ngcobo won’t be a free agent for a long time as he’s on his way to ambitious Sekhukhune United.
The 30-year-old joined the Glamour Boys from another Soweto outfit Moroka Swallows ahead of the 2021/22 season. During his stay at the club, he made 45 appearances in all competitions.
“He [Njabulo Ngcobo] struggled because the team was struggling,” Khanye told FARPost. “He arrived at the worst Kaizer Chiefs team. I think it was the time when Stuart Baxter was the coach.
“The way the boy was playing at Moroka Sallows and the way he was playing at Chiefs, it was a different philosophy. It was just a disaster.
“It’s so unfortunate for that boy, one of the best talents I’ve witnessed in his position. I think they should have kept him for some time, what a talent.”
Khanye went on to share his opinion about the other three players Dolly, Sithebe and Hlanti who have left the club.
“[Keagan] Dolly came at Chiefs, he did nothing. He did well at Mamelodi Sundowns but he failed at Chiefs. I think it’s the injuries, but he was given a chance.
“[Sifiso] Hlanti forgets that he’s a defender, technically his poor and hasn’t done well since joining Chiefs.
“[Siyethemba] Sithebe for me didn’t deserve to come to Kaizer Chiefs and wasn’t supposed to wear that jersey like Hlanti,” he added.
