Latest on Keagan Dolly’s Kaizer Chiefs situation

With veteran midfielder Keagan Dolly’s future at Kaizer Chiefs hanging in the balance, here’s what FARPost knows about his injury and contract situation.

Dolly is out of contract at the end of the season in June, having joined Amakhosi in the 2021/22 season. At the time, he signed a three-year deal after parting ways with French Ligue 1 side Montpellier.

His first season in Chiefs colours was his most fruitful, delivering seven goals and five assists in 26 games. In his second season, he played 25 games, played five and provided four assists.

This season, he has only featured seven times due to injuries that have sidelined him. He is yet to register his name on the scoresheet nor provide an assist. At the start of the season, he battled with a knee injury.

After recovering and returning to action, he played four games after the 2023 AFCON break as he looked to rediscover his form.

The 31-year-old featured in matches against Royal AM, Milford FC, Moroka Swallows and Golden Arrows. His last outing was against Golden Arrows on 5 March 2024 in a match Chiefs won 1-0.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker fractured his toe last month. Initial reports indicated a six-week recovery period, placing his potential return sometime in May. However, information reaching FARPost is that his recovery could be slightly longer.

“The injury could see him miss the rest of the season. He’s still on the recovery path and it could a couple of weeks before he’s fully fit,” a source said.

Adding another layer of uncertainty, Chiefs reportedly put contract renewal discussions with Dolly on hold.

This move could have two purposes. Firstly, it might keep Dolly focused on his recovery and remaining matches this season. Secondly, the Chiefs might be waiting to assess the situation before committing to a new deal.

Dolly’s injuries are a worry for the club, given his recent lack of playing time.
