Former Orlando Pirates defender cut ties with Magesi

Former Orlando Pirates defender Diamond Thopola has cut ties with DStv Premiership newcomers Magesi FC ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The experienced defender joined Dikwena tša Meetse in August 2023 after parting ways with the now-defunct All Stars, who sold their status to Black Leopards.

Thopola, who joined Magesi highly recommended as he boasts both DStv Premiership and Motsepe Foundation Championship experience, struggled for game time under the tutelage of Clinton Larsen.

In the just-ended Motsepe Foundation Championship season, Thopola only managed to feature in eight games for the Limpopo club, a total of 635 minutes played.

When Thopola was unveiled by Magesi last campaign, the defender revealed his desire to play in the DStv Premiership again, citing that what matters the most for him is to lead Magesi to the promised land of which the club did reach the promised land.

“Everyone wants to be there [play in the DStv Premiership], but for me to be here at Magesi is to guide the younger ones and share my experiences with them,” Thopola told FARPost when he was unveiled as Magesi player for the 2023/24 term.

“I will be happy to see most of them play in the PSL, maybe in the next season or in the near future.”

Sadly, the 34-year-old footballer won’t be part of the Magesi squad when they begin their journey in the SA elite league.

Thopola also represented teams such as Thanda Royal Zulu, Chippa United, and Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila [TTM].

PLAYERS EXPECTED TO JOIN MAGESI FC

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Darrel Matsheke is reported to be on the radar of the DStv Premiership newbies as the side aims to strengthen their squad.

Another ex-Amakhosi man, Kgaogelo Sekgota, began training with the team about a week ago, hoping to secure a permanent deal and revive his football career.
