Nyiko Mobbie on SuperSport United’s radar

In a bid to bolster their squad for the upcoming season, DStv Premiership outfit SuperSport United have reportedly set their sights on Nyiko Mobbie.

The right-back had an impressive loan spell with Sekhukhune United last season, as they finished in the top eight and qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup.

Mobbie featured in 35 matches across all competitions for Sekhukhune after establishing himself as a first-choice right-back under then-coach Seema.

The 29-year-old defender spent three loan stints with Babina Noko since they gained promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship in 2021. Before his loan spells with Sekhukhune, the Mamelodi Sundowns man, Mobbie was also loaned out to clubs such as Chippa United and Stellenbosch FC.

Meanwhile, Mobbie has also managed to hold a regular place in the Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad in recent years.

The wing-back has played only one game for Sundowns since signing from the defunct-Free State Stars in 2018.

With SuperSport preparing for the new season, indications are that the Gavin Hunt coached-team is keen on the services of Mobbie.

“SuperSport United have enquired about the availability of Nyiko Mobbie to beef up their squad for next season,” a source told FARPost.

“At the moment, SuperSport is very thin in that right-back position, that’s why they are looking at Mobbie. The possibility of losing Keagan Johannes has also made them to prioritise the position.

“At some point last season, they used Gamphani Lungu at right-back and that’s not his natural position, Lungu is a right-winger.”

Matsatsantsa are also expected to welcome new signings Pogiso Senoka and Keagan Dolly as previously reported by FARPost.
