Gavin Hunt issues an update on Vincent Pule’s fitness

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has provided an update on the fitness levels of the club’s recent acquisition, Vincent Pule.

Pule reunited with Hunt at SuperSport a few weeks ago after he parted ways with Soweto giants Orlando Pirates.

The duo previously worked together at the now-defunct Bidvest Wits and won the 2016/17 ABSA Premiership [now called the Betway Premiership].

The Tshwane side also made signings ahead of the new season, including right-back Nyiko Mobbie and centre-back Pogiso Sanoka. In addition, goalkeeper Ricardo Goss returned to the team on a two-year loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The talented winger was part of the Matsatsantsa squad that travelled to Botswana for their pre-season camp.

Due to many injury setbacks, ‘Mashonisa’ has had limited game time in the past seasons. Last campaign, he only made 11 appearances in all competitions, and he grabbed an assist in Pirates colours.

GAVIN HUNT COMMENTS ON VINCENT PULE’S FITNESS

The mentor is aware of Pule’s struggles with injuries in previous seasons. However, he’s confident the 32-year-old is now in a better fitness situation.

Hunt further stated that Pule is ready to play, however, at this stage he cannot play the whole 90 minutes.

“He’s fine. He did the medicals. In the weeks he’s been here, he’s running and playing, so he should be able to play,” said Hunt. But he’s not really 90 minutes fit, but he will have to play some minutes.

“We lost a left-sided player [Shandre Campbell]. We needed a left-sided player, and the one in the academy is a little too far away. Pule became available, so it’s the timing. He’s done well, so he looks good.”

Pule may get some minutes and make his SuperSport United debut when he makes an emotional return to Orlando Stadium to face his former club, Orlando Pirates, in the MTN8 quarter-finals.

The two sides will renew their rivalry on Saturday, 3 August and kickoff is at 6pm.
