Cape Town Spurs cut ties with Leo Thethani

Cape Town Spurs have cut ties with attacker Leo Thethani as they prepare for life in the second-tier league of SA football – the Motsepe Foundation Championship for the 2024/25 season.

CT Spurs were relegated to the NFD following a dismal showing in the SA’s top-flight in the previous campaign. The Urban Warriors spent just one season in the Premiership after gaining promotion at the start of last season.

They gained promotion through the PSL Promotional/Relegation playoffs, beating Casric Stars and Maritzburg United for a place in the elite league.

On their return to the Betway Premiership [previously known as DStv Premiership], CT Spurs won six games in the league, drew five and suffered 19 defeats in 30 matches. They collected 23 points to finish at the basement of the log standings.

With the Cape Town-based side planning for the upcoming season in the NFD, FARPost understands that Thethani is leaving CT Spurs.

The forward signed a new two-year deal with CT Spurs in July 2023, and he’s parting ways with the club with one year left on his contract.

Thethani also had persistent injuries during his time at Cape Town Spurs which saw him play only six matches across all competitions without contributing any goal.

The utility player is going out the exit door at CT Spurs with players such as Rushwin Dortley, Katlego Maphathe, and Siphesihle Maduna.

Dortley and Maduna have joined Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy, respectively, while Maphathe is currently training with Maritzburg United.

NTOBATSI MESEGELA CONFIRMS THAT THETHANI IS NOT IN SPURS’ FUTURE PLANS

His agent, Ntobatsi Masegela, confirmed that both parties have reached a decision to part ways as the player is not in the club’s future plans.

“Leo Thethani is leaving Cape Town Spurs; it’s a mutual termination between both parties because it looks like he is not in the future plans of the team,” Masegela said.

“A good thing is that the player is more motivated to quickly return to competitive action because injuries were also his problem last season. He’s ready for a fresh start and show people his full potential.”
