Mwape Musonda comments on his reunion with Leopards

Black Leopards’ all-time top goalscorer, Mwape Musonda, has commented on his reunion with Lidoda Duvha for the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

Musonda rejoined the Limpopo club on a free transfer, having been without a club since July 2023 after he departed from the now-defunct Moroka Swallows.

The Zambian frontman first signed for Leopards in August 2016, spending four seasons with the club.

During his first stint with Lidoda Duvha, Musonda was the club’s top goalscorer in the National First Division during the 2017/18 season, scoring 14 goals to help Leopards gain promotion to the SA top-flight.

Musonda won the Golden Boot in the country’s elite league in the following campaign after scoring 16 goals.

The 33-year-old revealed that he has returned to Leopards because he would like to retire at the club and add to his goals. Musonda is currently the club’s all-time top goalscorer with 65 goals.

“It feels great to be back here. They say, “Only a fool dies and comes home”. So, it’s a decision that was always in my plans,” Musonda told FARPost.

“You know, I have always told myself that I would like to go back home [at Leopards] because I would like to finish my career here.

“So, it’s a great feeling to be back, and I’m hoping to make more contributions to the teams and create more memories with guys here.”

MWAPE MUSONDA KEEN TO USE SAUDI ARABIA EXPERIENCE TO HELP LEOPARDS

Musonda also highlighted that he would like to use his Saudi Arabian experience, where he played for Hatta for a season before he signed for ‘The Dube Birds’.

“It was a good experience. But a change of environment is something that comes with its challenges. It was a great experience to see how football is done that side,” he added.

“As a footballer, it has also helped me gather experience, and obviously, coming back to Leopards, I come back as a different player as I left.

“Now, it’s up to me to share my overseas experience with these boys and see how we can help the team going forward.”
