Limpopo club appoint Owen Da Gama as new head coach

Limpopo ABC Motsepe League side Vondwe XI Bullets have appointed Owen Da Gama as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The amateur outfit confirmed the news of the well-travelled mentor on Sunday, 25 August 2024.

Da Gama’s last coaching gig was when he was in charge of Black Leopards when they were relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the 2022/23 season.

However, Leopards opted to buy All Stars’ Motsepe Foundation Championship status the following season after their relegation from the SA football second tier.

VONDWE XI BULLETS’ OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON OWEN DA GAMA’S APPOINTMENT

“We are looking forward to working with him. Mabullets, let’s welcome Owen Da Gama to Vondwe XI Bullets FC.”

Da Gama comes in with a lot of experience, having also coached teams such as Orlando Pirates, Free State Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic, Platinum Stars, Dynamos FC, Highlands Park, TS Galaxy and Sekhukhune United.

To add to that, Da Gama also served as Bafana Bafana’s coach and the head coach of the South African U23 men’s national team.

In a recent interview with FARPost, the 63-year-old revealed that he had an opportunity to return to the PSL but had to turn down that opportunity because the unnamed club’s vision did not align with his.

Given Da Gama’s experience, the Limpopo club will be hoping to achieve its ultimate goal of qualifying for the ABC League national playoffs and gaining promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The Limpopo ABC Motsepe League is expected to start in the first week of October with the Nedbank Cup qualifications and the league action a week later.
