Musonda guarantees more goals for Leopards, guns for top goalscorer

Black Leopards frontman Mwape Musonda has guaranteed more goals for Lidoda Duvha as he aims to be the top goalscorer in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Musonda has been the leading top goalscorer on two occasions in PSL history while turning out for the Limpopo club.

The Zambian international was the leading scorer for Lidoda Duvha during the 2017/18 National First Division season, where he scored 14 goals to help Leopards secure promotion to the SA elite league. In the previous season, he had found the back of the net on 11 occasions for Leopards in the National First Division.

Following their promotion to the top flight in the 2018/19 campaign, the 33-year-old went on to win the Golden Boot award after scoring 16 goals.

Given his impressive displays at Leopards, Musonda left the team in October 2020 for Hatta Club, in the United Arab Emirates [UAE].

MWAPE MUSONDA KEEN TO CHALLENGE FOR MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP TOP GOALSCORER

The former Orlando Pirates striker revealed to this publication that he aims to challenge for the top goalscorer accolade, as he believes that he still has what it takes given his experience.

Musonda is currently the all-time top goalscorer for Leopards with 65 goals. He stated that he would like to increase his goal tally to 100 goals before he could retire.

“Well, I mean, if I thought I couldn’t do it again I wouldn’t have come back here at Leopards,” said Musonda in a recent interview with FARPost.

“As much as I have come back here to help the young boys, I’m also looking at that target [being the top goalscorer]

“You know, I’m on 65 goals, the all-time top goalscorer for Black Leopards. So, for me, is to just add to that number and see if we can take it to 100 goals before I retire.”

Leopards are currently placed sixth on the league table with one point following their 1-1 draw against newcomers Highbury FC in their opening match of the season last week.
