Papi Zothwane reflects on coaching journey, his role at Magesi
Newly-appointed Magesi FC assistant coach Papi Zothwane has reflected on his coaching journey and why he is still content with being an assistant.
Zothwane joined the Betway Premiership side Magesi after spending time at Black Leopards last season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
After retiring as a player in 2012, the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder has also coached at clubs such as Uthongathi and Polokwane City FC.
MAGESI FC ASSISTANT COACH ENJOYING HIS ROLE AS AN UNDERSTUDY TO CLINTON LARSEN
“It’s a long way. Like I always say, not all of us can be coaches. Sometimes I believe that coaching is a calling because you have so much to deal with,” Zothwane told FARPost.
“But I am happy because most of my peers are enrolling in coaching, and some are analysts. It’s good to share football with people who have played it. There are coaches who have never played at the highest level, but the knowledge is there, and it’s good to share with these coaches because we learn every day.
“As much as you can be a player, you can’t know everything. Sometimes, you can be a good player but not be a good coach. So, for me, with my journey, where I started and where I am going. I am not rushing to be a head coach,” he said.
PAPI ZOTHWANE HAPPY TO SERVE AS ASSISTANT COACH UNDER CLINTON LARSEN
“That’s why I am happy to be under coach Clinton Larsen and learn as much as I can because he has been in the PSL for the longest time.
“Also to be working alongside coach Jacky [Ledwaba] who has been with this team for a long time and is someone I know. It makes things easier for me to be part of this team. So I am happy that many players are now coaches.”
