Masango highlights Mofokeng’s significant progress since professional debut
Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Mandla Masango has highlighted the significant progress made by Orlando Pirates’ teenage sensation Relebohile Mofokeng since his professional debut.
Since being introduced into professional in the 2022/2023 season, the 19-year-old keeps on mesmerising not only the Buccaneers faithful but the football enthusiasts in the country.
Mofokeng, who has been hailed as the future star of the rainbow nation, made his Bafana Bafana debut in June in a match against Zimbabwe.
On Friday, he came on late in the second half against Uganda when Hugo Broos’ men were trailing behind by 2-1. He made an impact as Bafana eventually found an equaliser through his Pirates teammate Thalente Mbatha.
Masango believes Mofokeng’s game has evolved, as evidenced by his improved statistics.
He feels the young winger has been directly involved in numerous goals, both scoring and assisting unlike in the early stages of his time with the first team.
He hopes that Mofokeng will secure a move abroad after this season with Pirates.
MASANGO – WHERE RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG HAS IMPROVED
“I think the sky is the limit for Rele, I like the fact that he’s very humble and he gets down to business,” said Masango.
“His game has improved in terms of stats. If you can check the games he plays, he assists, he scores and every time he has the ball, you can see there’s something that might happen.
“So, I wish him all the best. Hence, I said last time that he should have been in the Bafana’s AFCON squad.
“But here he is and he’s proving himself. I hope this is his last season locally and he goes overseas.”
Masango also commended Mofokeng for continuing to reside in the clubhouse rather than seeking independent accommodation.
He is of the belief that this will assist him in remaining grounded and realising his dreams.
MASANGO ON MOFOKENG – ‘I HEAR HE STILL LIVES IN THE CLUBHOUSE’
“I think the reason why he’s grounded is because he comes from the football background,” he added.
“His father used to play before, so that’s one thing that will make him stay grounded but also his hard work.
“And I hear that he still lives in the club house. So, that’s on its own indicates that he wants to succeed.
“If he can stick to that and put us in the map. I feel he’s gonna be one of the best if not the best in the country.”
