Former Sekhukhune United attacker sheds light on move to Upington City

Former Sekhukhune United attacker Tlotlo Leepile has shed light on his transfer move to Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City FC.

Leepile completed a move to Upington City ahead of the 2024/25 campaign after parting ways with Casric Stars.

The attacking midfielder spent the second round of the previous campaign with Stars, playing six games and scoring two goals.

At the start of the 2023/24 season, Leepile was in the colours of NB La Masia; however, he parted ways with the club a few months after putting pen to paper.

Before his short stints with La Masia and Casric Stars, the 28-year-old spent three seasons with Babina Noko. Leepile was part of the Sekhukhune squad that gained promotion to the SA top-flight 2020.

The former SA’s junior international played 47 matches across all competitions during his stay at Sekhukhune. He parted ways with the Limpopo-based side in July 2023.

“It feels good to be at Upington City because it’s close to home, and I can say it’s a fresh start for me. I was working very hard during the pre-season,” Leepile told FARPost.

“You know, pre-season is always difficult because you have to work hard to get back in shape and lose weight. But I can say that I’m ready for the new season to help the team achieve its goals.

“When I look at my game, I also want to help the team with scoring goals and providing assists. That’s how I want to help the team.”

The Northern Cape-based side also signed ex-Mamelodi Sundowns winger Jabulani Shongwe to bring the much-needed experience in their chase for promotion to the Betway Premiership. Shongwe was in the books of Pretoria Callies last season, where he scored two goals in 19 league matches.

In addition, Upington lost key attacker Keletso Makgalwa who signed with Sekhukhune in the current transfer window. Makgalwa was the club’s top-goal scorer with 11 goals last season.
