Manyama shares uplifting words with Fortune Makaringe after Pirates exit

Cape Town City FC assistant coach Lebogang Manyama has shared uplifting words with Fortune Makaringe after his exit from Orlando Pirates.

Makaringe parted ways with The Buccaneers in the off-season, bringing to an end his six-season spell with the club.

‘Maestro’ as he’s affectionately known, joined Pirates in 2019 from Durban City FC, previously known as Maritzburg United. Makaringe played 147 matches in all competitions at Pirates, scored 10 goals and chipped in with nine assists.

In the previous campaign, the attacking midfielder struggled to break into the starting line-up after featuring in 14 matches across all competitions. He managed to register only one goal under his name and provided one assist.

Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro preferred Karim Kimvuidi, Relebohile Mofokeng, Kabelo Dlamini, and Patrick Maswanganyi in the attacking midfield position.

Makaringe left Pirates at the end of last season and signed with Cape Town City on a free transfer ahead of the 2023/24 Betway Premiership season.

Manyama has advised Makaringe to embrace his stay at Pirates as a fulfilled dream and know that he’s not reviving his career at City but continuing his journey.

“Fortune is a top boy; we don’t need to talk about football with Fortune. I think we need to talk about what he brings to the change room,” Manyama said.

“I’m not really a follower of the things that happen on Instagram, but you can see on his Instagram that he is very charismatic, very wholesome, and positive. ‘But the biggest and most important thing is that when you left Pirates, you had done your part. You had a dream to play for Pirates, and it’s done.

“‘Places like that you don’t really attach your feelings to; you just be grateful that you played there; not many footballers will get a chance to play a Soweto Derby.

“‘So take that with you because you’re not here to revive your career but you here to continue your journey. Pirates gave you all the respect, and they’ll always give you the respect for the person you are’.

“I mean, the energy he brings has just taken up the mood and revitalised everyone because we have a lot of young players who look up to him.”
